TIA, 28 July

This week on Total Information Awareness:

  • New Eukanuba formulation. Smarter, more trainable puppies is the pitch. As the owner of the too-smart corvisdog, I'm not sure this is a great idea. However, it may be important to successfully hunt ultrasonic-emitting squirrels.
  • iPods. Mossberg trashes the new Sony Walkman HD, still prefers iPod. Real Media's Harmony hack of AAC. Apple and Motorola cut a deal that sounds good for Apple. And Oakley to sell $400 sunglasses with built-in MP3 capabilities...
  • Handedness determined in the womb
  • Wave Field Synthesis.
  • X Prize. Scaled Composites (SpaceShipOne) filed its sixty day notice -- flight #1 for 29 September, flight #2 five days later (3 Oct?). da Vinci Project (Wild Fire) also announced its intent to fly in the autumn... regardless of SS1's status. Wild Fire is complete and to be revealed 5 August.
  • New version of Skype.
  • DoS attacks at Google and DoubleClick this week.
  • Maybe we'll play the JibJab flash, as it sounds like it is in trouble.
  • PayPal Settlement... slashdotted.
  • Is 10240 processors a lot? :) It would be a lot slower and cheaper if it were built of the AMD Semprons released today.

  • This, plus what bucy has, and a happy birthday shout-out for effjay.
