Life Altering Experiences of the Week

  • Yesterday, Wednesday, was effectively my last day working at CMU. 8 years later, I'm finally leaving Mother Wean.
  • This morning, Thursday, I had a "UP3" (Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty) + tonsillectomy. I remember talking to the anesthesiologist about his new RSX S-Type as I was rolled into the Operating Room. And then I woke up back in the same place we had rolled from. I got to hospital at 5am, and was discharged around 2pm. Now I'm on virtual house arrest for the next week or so for recovery.
The surgery itself is relatively short, usually requires overnight observation, and has a very painful recovery period. Most patients who have the surgery in our clinic will lose 15-20lbs in the postoperative 3-4 weeks from the pain.

  • This evening, Thursday, I asked Tessa to marry me. Despite the Percocet I am on (which is great), I maintain I was legally competent to do so. She said yes. No further details at this time.

Still to come in 2006: start new job at Switch (May), acceptance into graduate school (May), first-time home purchase (??).
