This evening I filled out a lot of paperwork to formally make an offer on a house. After looking at over 40 houses (probably 50, but I didn't keep early records), fully documented, we had found two that we felt were serious contenders. This evening we looked at both of them, and over dinner we came up with weighted pro and con lists. And made an offer for one of them. We specified that they have until Thursday at noon for a response. It is a low-ball offer, at 75% of their asking price, but around where we feel comfortable. When everything is done, I'll write up more about the whole matter. It has been exhausting and fascinating and an experience probably worth going through at this time.

sounds exciting! keep us posted :)

interesting psychological question: if you were the seller, what is the optimal response to a lowball offer?
