|03:55 pm - Our wines leave you nothing to hope for|
Went to Minority Report on Friday night. It was a solid work, and a smart adaptation of the original fiction. With, naturally, a few cliches that made it less suspenseful when it deviated.
Our frisbee record remains unblemished. We played well for some of it - running about for 4.5 hours in 90 degree heat (probably the same in humidity) can be tiring. Went into work for a couple of hours before, and a couple of hours later. But for a good cause: the two remaining grad students started writing a paper on friday, due saturday midnight... seth left friday... and neither of them are native english speakers. I guess my ghost of Mary Page may be useful.
Started packing today, for lack of reason not to. Then I did laundry, and I'm on my way to try to work out for a bit. For lack of a reason not to. My linguistic interests continue to swell.
Got a phone call from ommkarja. Flutter flutter.
Does the fact that you are packing reflect some ambition of finding a new place to live in near future?

Mostly. I have 37 days to be completely moved.
But does that mean you're any closer to finding a place to live, or are you going to live out of RoboClub :-)

At this point... I don't know. I just don't. I've begun taking advantages of the showering capacities of the UC. Convenient -- with hottub. Good for removing that "ran around in a practice for 3 hours" feeling. That's probably a bad sign.
Blech, I have seen pictures of the cockroaches in the roboclub. Imagine them crawling on you while you sleep! EWWWWWWWWWWW!

The cockroaches have been reduced in number. And I am on pretty friendly terms with them. I think the far grosser concept is the couch, which... was not even new when the robotics club got it, which was before my time... and has slept dozens. There is a reasonable theory of its function as a cockroach mansion. And I'm not sure it has ever been cleaned.
...and I still sleep on it. Ewww.
Get some advice from Zia, and it will be just like Joe's Apartment.
Then there was the dead cat smell, because a cat got stuck in a pipe or somesuch.
However, these aren't the sorts of things that phase a hardened outdoorsman like Dan.
also saw Minority Report this weekend. i liked.
was told it was based on a Philip K. Dick story - but i didn't recognize it - which one?
i've read a lot of philip k dick, but he wrote a lot...

Based on the short story "Minority Report". A new collection of his short stories (of the same name) has been rereleased surrounding the film.
MARY PAGE, just the woman's name makes me shudder. scary, scary...
and way to go on working out. we'll make a jock out of you yet!

I just realized MP was a completely inside reference that only you would get. Heck, most of the people who read my journal probably think CSW
is something that teaches you about computers.
I would not place money on the jock bit. Bit better shape, certainly.
Maybe you should look up your old classmates and get them hooked.
I would agree, the transformation to jock would require more than just exercise.

I did when I was there. That's the computer infrastructure I built. Ethernet, fiber, high speed access, email for everyone -- heck, that link probably still serves from the Sparc5 in what used to be in my office.
Does following the World Cup help or hurt my case?
I meant get them hooked on LiveJournal.
I don't think so. But that fact that you are now heavily participating in a sport might.

Perhaps I might, if I ever see any of them again. Haven't kept in touch with most of them. Hmmmm....
